St. Andrews Old Course
The game of golf has been played in St. Andrews for some 600 years. It's golf's mecca.
Golf's home. There are five 18-hole courses associated with the town of St. Andrews and all are available – by Act of
Parliament – for public play.
St. Andrews New Course
Designed by Old Tom Morris in 1894, many locals consider the New Course to be as tough
a test as the Old. Closer to the sea, the best holes of the New Course are at the turn, meandering through some of St. Andrews'
largest dunes.
St. Andrews Jubilee, Eden & Strathrum Courses
The Jubilee is definitely the best of the rest and is actually
the course closest to St. Andrews Bay. Redesigned and lengthened in 1989, it now plays at over 6,800 yards. The Eden and Strathyrum,
shorter, but with many excellent holes,
St. Andrews Bay - Devlin
Bruce Devlin and the legendary Gene Sarazen teamed up to design one of Scotland's most
interesting new courses. The second course built at Chateau Elan's beautiful St. Andrews Bay Resort, the Devlin (open since
July 2002) is an outstanding design with unmatched views of St. Andrews and the sea.
St. Andrews Bay - Torrance
This spectacular 18-hole championship course opened in the early fall of 2001. It was
designed by the late Gene Sarazen and Scotsman Sam Torrance.
Kingsbarns
Although only open since July 2000, Kingsbarns is already heralded as one of Scotland's
best and most exciting links courses. Built along a stretch of shoreline just a few miles from St. Andrews, the layout has
drawn great praise from golf critics everywhere.
Crail Golfing Society - Balcomie Links
The Crail Golfing Society has been playing golf over the links at Balcomie since the late
1700s. Balcomie -- the original 18 at Crail -- is often recognized for the standard of its greens. Although not long by today's
standards, the links can be a difficult test when the wind blows off the North Sea. It's truly a joy to play. Crail is located
10 miles southeast of St. Andrews along the southern Fife coastline.
Crail Golfing Society - Craighead Links
The Craighead Links at Crail opened in 1998 and quickly became a favorite among local
players and travelers alike. American course architect Gil Hanse created a classic Scottish links with beautiful panoramic
views of the sea and local countryside.
Lundin Links
Lundin Links remains one of the local Scots' most interesting and popular seaside courses.
Although the club itself was founded in 1868, the course dates back to 1909 when famous local native James Braid was brought
in to design a new 18.
Scotscraig
Located between St. Andrews and Carnoustie in the town of Tayport, Scotscraig is set just
1/2 mile from the beach. Although the course has many characteristics of a links design, it also has a distinct heathland
feel that is quite different from its neighbors at St. Andrews and Carnoustie. The current design is credited to the great
Scottish designer, James Braid. The golf club itself is considered to be the 13th oldest in the world and the course is often
used as a qualifying site for the Open Championship.
Elie (Golf House Club)
Test your shotmaking skills with a round at Elie. The members of The Golf House Club play
at Elie and always maintain the course in top condition. Records of golf over these links date from 1589, and there are claims
that play may date back to the year 1450.
The Dukes
Designed by five-time Open winner Peter Thomson, this layout provides great contrast to
the famous Old Course. The Dukes is set on an elevated, parkland setting with majestic views over St. Andrews and the countryside.
Carnoustie
Six times a British Open course, Carnoustie is a stern challenge. Ben Hogan's only British
Open appearance -- and victory -- took place here in 1953. The venerable links also played host to the 1999 British Open.

Carnoustie. The earliest known reference is to "the gowf" being played on the Barry Links - close to
Carnoustie on the Northern shores of the Firth of Tay - early in the Sixteenth Century. A club was later founded in 1842 in
Carnoustie itself, and by the middle of that century Allan Robertson put in a ten hole course there. This was later extended
to eighteen holes by Tom Morris, and in 1926 James Braid installed new tees, greens, and bunkers.

Gullane No. 1
There are three courses in the charming golf town of Gullane, but at 6466 yards, the No.
1 course is the toughest test. No. 1 is quite different from most Scottish links courses as it offers great elevation changes.
In fact, it's quite hilly and can be a struggle on the old knees and ankles. The panoramic view from the top of Gullane Hill
on the 7th hole is one of the most famous in all of golf. Established in 1884, the club is also one of Scotland's oldest.
Gullane No. 2
Although shorter in length than Gullane No. 1, the No. 2 Course offers terrific links
golf in the true Scottish tradition. The course opened in 1898 and runs along next to No. 1 for most of the front side before
heading out on its own towards Aberlady Bay.
Dunbar
Laid out on a narrow strip of land, this is a typical Scottish links with nine holes out
and nine holes back in. The layout originates from 1856. A stone wall, originally an estate barrier, still runs along the
entire course and can be a factor to consider in playing. The town of Dunbar is found 30 miles east of downtown Edinburgh,
15 minutes or so from the courses at Gullane.
